ecolife overview
Ecolife was born from a wanting to find a way to track sustainability living in a friendly yet informational way. You can casually share hacks or daily finds with others, or learn in-depth professional tips and tricks from journalists. Ecolife is the app that connects the green people with each other, helping the community grow from the inside out.
Tools used: Figma, Adobe Illustrator, Miro
problem
Although there are many sustainability apps,
a lot of them didn’t have a friendly welcoming
system that just anyone could dive into.
There aren’t resources that do both
community learning and lifestyle tracking.
solution
I wanted to create something that was easily
understandable and not overwhelming. Thus,
Ecolife was born. The app that helps you balance life and sustainability by connecting
with others that are new or already experienced
in the Eco Life. Users are able to track trips, and other habits to understand their footprint on the planet.

User Research
-
Speaking to various users highlighted the need to have information be clear and informational but not in a way that was too overwhelming for the eyes. This gave me the idea to use data visualization tactics to make the data seem more approachable and not too intimidating.
-
Making sure my users understood the purpose of the app was key to making an app that felt intuitive.

“It all begins with an idea. Maybe you want to launch a business. Maybe you want to turn a hobby into something more. Or maybe you have a creative project to share with the world. Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference. Don’t worry about sounding professional. Sounds like you. There are over 1.5 billion websites out there, but your story is what’s going to separate this one from the rest.”

I chose Inter as my primary typeface because it is very intuitive and clean. The Sans Serif offers a rounded nature at the same time it offers a sharp feature. For my body copy was because it has a similar nature of inter but it’s more rounded than inter which is part of my brand, roundness, friendliness.
The color palette exudes welcoming, warmth, and organic. Ecolife aims to bring in anyone no matter how much or little they know about sustainable living, therefore the colors I chose was key to driving home this message to users.
Final Design Desicions
In the end, I decided to have illustrations in the onboarding, and keep the apps internal screens very minimal. Intentionally using the colors across components to establish hierarchy, friendliness, and maintain a clean look.
